Ensuring Safety through Sourcing and Testing
There are two things that you must consider if you want the essential oils you are using to be safe. On this page we walk through SOURCING + TESTING and talk about why they are vitally important, and the questions you want to be asking, if you care about safety.
Why are SOURCING + TESTING important? How do I know what a company is doing?

In an effort to provide the consumer with the highest quality of essential oils, dōTERRA's partnerships with farmers span the globe.
99% of the partnerships are exclusive with dōTERRA. This means that these farmers and distillers will only work with dōTERRA because of the stringent quality standards that we have in place.
Bibliography of Key dōTERRA Research
A NOVEL APPROACH FOR LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL AUTHENTICATION AND QUALITY ASSESSMENT
Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical AnalysisA landmark study examining quality standards for Lavender essential oil. Researchers investigated Lavender from several essential oil companies to establish reliable quality assessment and adulteration detection techniques, allowing for greater sensitivity in detecting adulteration. dōTERRA's Lavender was found to be free from adulteration, and the most stable in chemistry across samples.
DIFFERENTIATION OF ESSENTIAL OILS USING NANOFLUIDIC PROTEIN POST-TRANSLATIONAL MODIFICATION PROFILING
MoleculesThis study examines the use of nanofluidic protein profiling to measure the biochemical effects of Copaiba, Mandarin, Melissa, and Turmeric essential oils. Extended results examined the same across multiple brands of essential oils and found dōTERRA's oils to free from adulteration. Where a standard GCMS test did not detect adulteration, the nanofluidic profiling did. Pure essential oils responded in more beneficial ways in the body than those showing adulteration.
PROTECTIVE ESSENTIAL OIL ATTENUATES INFLUENZA VIRUS INFECTION: AN IN VITRO STUDY IN MDCK CELLS
Complementary and Alternative MedicinedōTERRA's On Guard Protective Blend was examined for its ability to modulate the influenza virus in MDCK cells. On Guard suppressed the infectivity of the influenza virus, resulting in decreased direct infection of the cells. Cells treated with On Guard had minimal expression of viral proteins, suggesting that the suppressed infectivity of the virus is due to the inhibition of viral protein translation.
I will continually be adding to the studies listed above, however I will mainly focus on research that has examined dōTERRA's essential oils. If you would like to find general essential oils related research, see the links below.
